We are delighted to announce that Unpar’s Vis Team advanced as a Quarterfinalist in the 6th Asian International Arbitration Centre (“AIAC”) Pre-Moot for the 2022 Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition by placing in the top 8 out of 146 teams. The Unpar Vis team consists of Myria Athayyani Adnindhiya (2019), Tiara Ananda Kartika (2019), Elvina (2019), Lovelyn Tayuwijaya (2020), and Steven Widjaja (2020).

Since 2017, the AIAC Pre-Moot has been a highly-esteemed platform for Vis teams, coaches, as well as arbitrators from all around the world to compete prior to the Vis competition itself. This year, the AIAC Pre-Moot had more than 100 teams competing from all around the world from over 40 jurisdictions. During the preliminary rounds, Unpar’s Vis Team competed against University College Dublin, University of Tehran, Tashkent State University of Economics, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. In the Top 16 Round, the Unpar Vis Team went against the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law. Finally, in the Quarterfinals, the Team went against the University of New South Wales.

The Vis moot problem was released in October 2021. For the last six months, the Team conducted research and prepared arguments online. This year’s moot problem involves the issue of contract formation, the inclusion of standard terms in a contract, and the validity of an arbitration clause contained within standard terms, the law applicable to arbitration clause, and application of the CISG to an arbitration clause.
